Study of 1st Timothy - Lesson 1

Study: 1st Timothy 1:1
Tonight we began our first study in the book of Timothy. We learned of Timothy being a young person just like each one of us and no doubt he was challenged with many similar experiences and trials that we face each day. But his choice to serve Christ in his youth gave him an advantage over the enemy. With the strength of the Lord and the leading of the Holy Spirit he was able to live a life virtuous and spotless before God.
We were broken into small groups of 6-8 people and were asked to derive 3 points from the first chapter of Timothy that stood out to each of us. Together we collaborated and the task of only gathering ‘3′ points seemed to be too small. We could very well list just about every verse from chapter 1 and have something great to say about them. I compiled a list of some items brought forth and have included the verse number associated with each.
Points that Stood Out: (In no particular order.)
1. Verse 1 - Paul makes a bold statement proclaiming who and what he is without a question in mind, he makes it clear of his standings. Likewise, it reveals to us that we too should know who and what we are and with that revelation we should never be afraid to let it be known.
2. Verse 5 - Emphasized that its not law but it’s the LOVE of God.
3. Verse 18 - Speaking of “war a good warfare” and having been a prophecy.
4. Verses 5-7 - Being manifestations of the word and not just having the knowledge or natural understanding.
5. Verse 7-10 - Clarifies that this Word was not made for the righteous but made for the sinner.
Those are just some of the points we covered though it would do good to review the whole chapter and see if the Lord would reveal anything specifically to you. Until next time may God richly bless you and keep you. I look forward to our next youth meeting. Date to be announced.
Don’t forget the homework assignment of memorizing Psalms 34.
